In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the popular American Eagle Coin Program, the U.S. Mint produced a three-coin set of 20th Anniversary Gold Eagles in 2006 to be released exclusively to coin collectors and gold bullion investors. Containing 1 Proof Gold Eagle, 1 Reverse Proof and 1 Uncirculated Gold Eagle each at a one-ounce weight.
The set was strictly limited to only 10,000 sets, making it one of the rarer sets to be produced in the last number of years.
Since it’s inception in 1986, the American Gold Eagle coin program has become one of the most popular sources of gold bullion coins on the market today, as well as one of the most trusted sources of collectible and investment-grade gold coins in the world.
The Proof version, which features a beautiful rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ classic striding Liberty holding aloft a torch and olive branch, while the reverse features a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch while landing above a nest containing a female eagle and her young. The proof gold eagles were struck at the United States Mint West Point facility and as such, bear the “W” mint mark.
One of the more popular releases in the set, the 2006 Uncirculated Gold Eagles are quite unique as they were produced on specially burnished coin blanks and have a beautiful matte-like finish.
American Eagle Gold Reverse Proof Coins were also produced with a unique process that gives the stunning coins raised, mirror-like devices set atop a frosted background.
These 20th Anniversary Sets come shipped in a beautiful gold foli-laced hardwood case, packaged along with a Certificate Of Authenticity from the United States Mint.
