Honing Your Trade Show Etiquette

It is even more important than ever for business to make a great impression, particularly when exhibiting at trade shows.  There are a few key tools in your arsenal that can help to make your experience, and that of your current and potential customers, a positive one.  First, be sure to research the particular trade show you plan on attending.  Familiarize yourself with the history of the show and its attendees.  Being familiar with your audience can help you to prepare everything from your message to how you deliver that message.   Next, make sure you have trained your exhibit staff appropriately; they are the representatives of your business.  Some tips include dressing according to the show, not eating or chewing gum at the booth, taking a short break each hour, and paying attention to people when they approach the exhibit.  Encourage them to greet people in the aisles and use a firm handshake when looking people in the eye.  Lastly, be on hand yourself so that you may help to monitor and guide the staff.
