Using a blackhead removal tool properly can actually help prevent blackheads from becoming inflamed.  Using a comedone extractor is better than using your fingers, reducing the spreading of bacteria and scarring.  Here are a few tips on how to use a blackhead extraction tool.

First, use a facial steamer or lay a warm, damp compress over your face for a few minutes to open the pores.  The heat also helps to soften the blackhead, making them much easier to remove.  When you are ready to use the extractor, lay the loop over the blackhead.  Apply gentle and even pressure until the oil is forced out of the pore.  The blackhead will disloged and you may experience an oozing of oil and debris.

If a blackhead is resistant, do not try to force it out.  Excessive force can cause infection and scarring.  When you are finished with the extraction, cleanse your face and use an astringent to kill bacteria.  Follow up with a toner to close your pores.
