I Found an Old Lantern

One of the coolest things I ever found on a visit to an estate sale was a vintage lantern used on the railroads by workers over a hundred years ago.  I did not know a whole lot about lanterns when I found them, but the man selling them was a font of knowledge.  He explained that the lanterns he had were very old and may have even been from around the time of the Civil War.  They were fixed globe lanterns, which I have since learned are some of the most valuable of the railroad lanterns collected by railroad enthusiasts.  I didn’t purchase the lanterns because the man wanted a few hundred dollars for them.  That seemed like a lot at the time, but looking back, I probably could have actually make my money back without much trouble.
