Marijuana usage is widespread in many countries in the world, even in places where it is against the law. While being medically permissable in 13 states in the US, it is still illegal everywhere on a Federal level. Nevertheless, the introduction of medical marijuana for patients has led to a general trickle down effect of marijuana on the black market. While the statistics on drug use amongst teens is a bit scattered, there are some interesting inferences on how many people in general might suffer from chronic marijuana use leading to addiction, and upon cessation, the classic withdrawal symptoms of drug addiction, be it marijuana, alcohol, or something “harder”. One number floating around but not backed up very well is the idea that about 10% of chronic (daily) smokers are addicted to marijuana. Can this be the case? Marijuana Addiction Help thinks so, noting that there’s an increase in the amount of online support groups amongst marijuana users. It’s almost as if the users want to hide it from casual smokers. Nevertheless, I suspect we will see the topic of addiction and marijuana be treated fairly (as opposed to a silly “all drugs are bad” mindset most anti-drug groups have) soon as more and more people find it available in their communities.
