Spy pen cameras are made up of a selection of components each one fully optimized to its role. This optimization is needed to fit all these components into such a small tight space.
A spy pen recorder is generally built in two pieces. The first, the lower portion contains the working pen and is normally as compact as possible whilst providing enough ink to last for several weeks of constant use. This device would greatly suffer if this section did not work correctly; some have even known to be binned by people unaware of their real use.
The upper portion contains all the camera equipment associated with the pen. The lens is normally located near the top above the pen clip. Aligned with a pinhole in the casing to accommodate the discreetness needed.
