The Mechanical Mistress

I thought that my marriage was in big trouble. I thought the worst, that my husband was having an affair. He would be distant during the times that we were together, and eager to get out the door whenever possible. It seemed that every time he would come up with a different excuse… “Oh, I’ve run out of smokes” or “We need milk for breakfast tomorrow, I’ll just pop out and get some”. Now, I know that the shop is only ten minutes walk from our house, so at the most he should have been gone half an hour or so, but most times he was gone for two or more hours, and I was really getting worried.

So last week I decided to follow him. I felt a little like an FBI agent on 24, hiding behind walls and peeking my head around corners, it was actually a little exhilarating to tell you the truth. Mrs Crabbopple from next door gave me a funny look as I crouched behind here rose bush, but I was too nervous to even worry about it. Anyway, good old hubby did a quick walk around the block and we were right back home, he snuck past the front door and headed out the back to the garage. I took a peek through the window, and there he was, playing with his pit bike parts. I couldn’t believe it, I mean, how unexciting is that? Anyway, I guess I should be thankful that his mistress is a machine. At least I can offer him something that his pit bike can’t…
